Who would have thought that a day would come where a popular hair trend is forced to an end. If you aren't clear about what hair trend that is, think of those swirly waves that are shaped and molded onto a woman's hairline often with the precision, grace and perfection of an artist creating complex paintings and illustrations in the studio. We're talking baby hair, curlfriends! Not a Monet, a Picasso or a Van Gogh! The obsession that some women have with baby hair should really be studied on a super grand scale. Some ladies won't feel that their look is complete if their edges are not laid or slicked. As a wig store dealing with various clientele, we can attest to the fact that some women take the baby hair trend to a whole nother level.
Having baby hair or "laid edges" means different things to different folks. Baby hair may look cute when styled correctly but should females become so enmeshed in the baby hair craze? What happens when an obsession with wearing baby hair becomes too strong or even a distraction within the workplace or classroom? Ask yourself a few questions. Do you find yourself believing that your edges must be laid everyday? Will you only wear wigs that are made with baby hair? Do you find yourself frequently leaving your duties to visit the mirror to fix your baby hair? If you've answered yes to these questions, don't worry because this hair trend may be around for a good a time but not a long one.
Baby Hair Banned in this Caribbean Island
Leadership at a Jamaican High School recently banned female students from wearing baby hair and edges. The school, which is located in Kingston, Jamaica released their new hair policy to students on instagram. The school wrote, "Please be advised that the wearing of edges is now officially banned on campus. Remember curtains belong in the house, not on the foreheads! Let's keep our looks neat and school ready. We appreciate your cooperation in upholding our standards of excellence as we continue honoring the legacy and inspiring the future."
What's at the Root of the Crazed Trend?
The baby hair craze has pervaded beauty culture so much that tiny combs and brushes have been created solely to help a person achieve the most defined edges. Don't have edges? Don't sweat it, there's a sticker for that! Yes, baby hair temporary tattoos and stickers can be purchased by individuals for the creation of a faux edge line. Think that's a big deal? Well, listen up! There have even been cases of women who elected to receive permanent baby hair ink on their foreheads.
Could it be that some females are desiring styles and looks of looser hair types and patterns instead of accepting the kinky edges that are natural to their own hairline? Kinky hair needs to be kinky. It doesn't need to be straightened, laid, relaxed or tamed. It deserves to be free and flowing in all its beautiful kinky textured glory.
