Halle Bailey Cohosts and Performs for Motown Christmas Special

Natural style star, Halle Bailey, performed musical hits by Diana Ross and the Supremes for NBC's Motown Christmas Special.  Halle brought the house down in a gorgeous golden fitted gown with two other female singers.  The group appeared as the Supremes for a Motown Christmas special which originally aired on December 11th on NBC.  The young ladies  belted out classic hits such as, "Stop in the Name of Love," "Baby Love" and "You Keep Me Hanging On." This was a first seeing Halle perform classic Motown hits and she has certainly got the moves and vocals to sing in the classic Motown style.  Halle wore a half up half down loc'd look with a long afro kinky half wig.  All three singers wore beautiful natural hair looks.  Isn't great to hear the exclusive sounds of Motown while in a modern era?  All three ladies looked classy and beautiful while belting out these hits by the Supremes.   The Motown era was full of vibrant, soulful and talente...

Does Ice Spice Wear a Wig?

Isis Gaston bka Ice Spice is the IT Girl of Generation Z.  Like a roaming colorful butterfly, she seemingly came out of thin air and blazed her way onto the rap girl scene.  She’s already formed collaborations with female rap heavy hitter, Nicki Minaj and pop sensation, Taylor Swift only three years in the game.  While briefly attending SUNY Purchase in New York, Ice Spice met and began creating music with her producer friend, Riot (Ephrem Lopez Jr.).  Riot encouraged and motivated her to pursue a rap career and she's since been successful. Ice Spice recently released her debut album, Y2K , on July 26th following the releases of her mixtapes in previous years.  The album contains 10 tracks and is 23 minutes long.  She's since embarked on her first world tour in July.  One thing about Ice Spice is that she knows how to get the crowds moving with her catchy drill and trap bops. Ice Spice has always sported a signature curly afro reminiscent of a ginger h...

Love my Hair Performance by Mickey Guyton, Brittney Spencer and Madeline Edwards

Country music artists Mickey Guyton, Brittney Spencer and Madeline Edwards performed a rendition of "Love my Hair" at the CMA Awards in 2021.  It is a beautiful song about embracing the hair that we were given and finding freedom through self love and loving one's natural hair.   The song was inspired by Faith Fennidy, a young African American girl who faced hair discrimination while attending school in the south.  She was prohibited from wearing braids in the classroom by the school's principal, who gave her a week to remove them or face expulsion.   Watch as Mickey, Brittney and Madeline perform this iconic and inspirational song while stylishly sporting BIG curls and fros. Lean back and listen to the soothing sounds of these black country music artists:

Spotlight on: Muni Long

Some of you may know this talented singer and songwriter as Priscilla Renea as the artist would regularly perform using her birthname.  Muni Long had worked in the industry for over 10 years behind the scenes as a songwriter before she decided to reinvent herself.  She wanted a fresh slate and to also be able to garner the same feeling that an unknown artist has before they break out with a number one hit.   Recently on the Jennifer Hudson show, Muni Long provided further explanation surrounding her name change.  She read about an ancient Indian sage named Muni.  Sages are individuals who come to understand the reasons behind existence through self-realization.  Muni discussed the name she saw with her husband, and with his encouragement, he suggested that it be pronounced as “money.” In the interview, Muni Long stated that it was also an affirmation for her and a play on words.  She wanted her money to be long!  It certainly worked! She has ...

The Truth About Beyonce & Bleaching

The Truth About Beyonce & Bleaching The girrrrrrllllls are talkinggggggggg!!!!! For the past week or so, the pop culture crowd has been sounding off about what appeared to be a lighter skin tone on Mrs. Beyonce Knowles-Carter.  Beyonce attended the Los Angeles premiere of her new documentary movie, Renaissance: A Film By Beyonce in a long custom chrome silver Versace bustier gown.   She accessorized the gown with long sleeve length evening gloves.  There was one aspect that stood out about Beyonce’s look that people would not stop talking about.  Her skin appeared to be noticeably lighter than usual.  She also wore a platinum silver blonde wig. Beyonce through the Years Beyonce has always been a lighter toned woman. A true sense of her skin tone can be seen in her baby photos like the below.    We can see that she has dark colored hair and a fair slightly yellowish tone.  During the past two decades, her skin tone has always been a tanned...

Are We Still Touching Black Women's Hair Without Permission? Kelis's 'Touching' Hair Moment in Singapore

Natural style star, Kelis and her fabulous kinks were the talk of the town in Singapore!  Kelis visited Singapore to perform at the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix Mandala Weekender festival which took place from September 20 – October 2.  Kelis was seen sporting long honey blonde Senegalese twists at a local Singaporean coffee shop when two East Asian women approached her and began touching her hair. The women appeared to be enthralled and mesmerized by the twists.  They stood over her while they discussed and examined the length and whether it was real or not.  Kelis looked uncomfortable while the women stood over her.  The women did not say hello to Kelis or stir up conversation before attempting to touch her hair.  When Kelis jokingly touched one of the women’s hair in the same manner they'd done to her, the woman proceeded to pull her own hair as if to say, “this is mine” and then gave Kelis a thumbs up; a reaction which seemed kind of shady. The singer...

Blue Ivy Makes An Appearance Sporting Kinks n Curls

Blue Ivy stepped out with her dad, Jay-Z for some daddy daughter time at Game five of the NBA Finals.  Blue looked so fly in her leather jacket and brown skin girl t-shirt.   Blue's appearance comes just as Saucy Santana's old tweets resurfaced where he referred to the young baby's hair in a negative light.   Blue is setting an example for other little young brown skin girls worldwide and her message is loud and clear: She loves to rock kinks and curls and you should too!  Look at the proud dad. Blue is looking so much like her mom with this hairstyle. She is totally Beyonce's daughter!! She looked confident, proud and at one moment, as her father's placed an arm around her while smiling, it seems like she said "stop, my hair!" Alright now, she's serious about her kinks n curls and we absolutely love that for her! She's so cute and is growing up so fast!

Saucy Santana Comes for Baby Blue Ivy and Beyonce and the Beyhive are NOT having it!

Saucy Santana’s old tweets about Beyonce and Blue Ivy magically re-appeared last week just as he released his “Crazy in Love” sampled track titled, “Booty.”  One of the tweets, which was four years old, criticized Beyonce during her pregnancy.  A person tweeted that Beyonce was glowing and Santana responded, “she look dry to me.” The most horrible statement of the old tweets was when Santana compared Blue Ivy to North West and horridly called Blue’s hair nappy. The tweet dated, Sept 17, 2014, said, “I just wanna be Blue Ivy (insert laughing emojis) nappy headed….”  A second tweet came a month later and Saucy Santana was bold in saying, “I’m sorry but North West clears Blue Ivy.  Have several carseats Blue.” Saucy Santana’s tweets are a class A example why many women in the Black community are hesitant to embrace who they are.  These are the types of statements that become ingrained in little black girls minds which lead them to think that they and their Afrocent...

Jada is Not Too Proud of Her Bald Head After All and It’s Completely Okay…

An incident happened at the Oscars Ceremony this past Sunday and it was due to a joke that Chris Rock made about Jada Pinkett.  Rock compared Jada’s shaved head to the fierce and femme warrior, GI Jane, who sports a shaved head in the original movie starring Demi Moore.  The joke was offensive on two different levels. The first reason why it was insensitive is because he chose to compare a woman who struggles with a condition called Alopecia to GI JANE.   Alopecia is a condition where an individual’s immune system attacks the hair follicles and results in hair loss or bald patches. There are various forms of alopecia including traction alopecia, scarring alopecia, Chemo induced alopecia and alopecia areata. Many individuals were not aware that Jada suffers from Alopecia and it is not her actual desire to wear a shaved head.   The second reason the joke was offensive (which no one is really talking about) is that the original 1997 film GI Jane did not do wel...
