Revlon was the first to introduce their Salon One Step hair dryer brush in 2016.  The brush makes drying hair a breeze with its consumer friendly design and ease of application.  The Revlon Salon One step brush became a favorite amongst many within the natural hair community.  Soon after generic (non-original) versions of the brush were everywhere but are these versions comparable to the original?  It would appear not.   The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently issued a warning to stop using hair dryer brushes by Jowenia and Zuoxukeji.  The hair dryer brushes manufactured by these sellers lack an integrated immersion protection device that can result in the risk of death or shock and electrocution. The Healthy Hair Act was implemented by members of congress in response to verified evidence that links formaldehyde containing products to an assortment of diseases and illnesses. Formaldehyde is a common agent that is used in relaxers and hair straightening treatments.  Black women are more likely to develop uterine cancer and twice as likely to die from cancer after prolonged exposure to hair products with the carcinogen containing ingredient.  Exposure to formaldehyde products have also been linked to respiratory illness and reproductive harm. The three congresswomen spearheading the Healthy Hair Act are Congresswomen Nydia Velasquez, Congresswoman Shontell Brown and Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley.
