Essence Wigs Jewelry Collection

Essence Wigs Jewelry Is Here 😁

This collection has been in motion for some time.   Some of you have reached out over the last few years to inquire about jewelry pieces on our mannequins and have wanted to purchase them.  EW founder has loved jewelry since forever and started designing and creating pieces several years ago.  An Ndebele style cuff was the first piece of jewelry that was listed for sale in the shop and it was always a plan to put together a collection with unique, enticing and culturally focused pieces.  And so folks-- it's finally here: The Bohemian Elegance Collection! We’re excited to introduce a few pieces from our first jewelry collection.

This collection is inspired by the ocean, beach and ancient African culture.  It includes pieces made with cowrie shells, pearls and rhinestones with a dash of elegance.  We definitely use the word bohemian quite a bit for some of our products so let's just explain what it means to be "bohemian." Bohemian embraces the unconventional. Bohemians are individuals who indulge in free expression, motion, thought and practices. They are free from conventional constraints and limits.  Though people are more accepting of Afrocentric beauty today compared to several years ago, certain afrocentric ideals, traditions and fashion can be considered to be bohemian in essence. Materials such as the cowrie shell were used to create a few pieces that have a connection to our ancient cultures.

The cowrie shell is a primary material in the Bohemian Elegance collection-- as you know it is an accessory used in some of our loc and twist wigs.  There's so much history behind the cowrie shell and its connection to our ancient homeland. Cowrie shells were once used as currency in the continents of Africa and Asia and traded for goods in the same way the the euro or dollar is used today. The shell was highly valued.  They were frequently worn in ancient Africa as a fashionable way to adorn when attending weddings, celebrations and events. African royals would always be seen in looks featuring cowrie shells as they were seen as a status symbol.

Cowrie Shells were (and still to this day) are prominent in the headdresses of various African tribes.

The great thing about afro kinky and curly hair is that there's something about big voluminous textured hair that always looks amazing with accessories, especially large earrings. If you love large earrings, then you’ll love our Bohemian Elegance Jewelry collection. We're also providing the option of clip on backing for those who don't want excess weight on their piercing and those who have non-pierced ears.  Pieces from the Bohemian Elegance collection will pair perfectly with any of our wigs.
