What's with the Afro Obsession at Halloween?

Afros have been the hairstyle of choice for black women dressing up in costume for Halloween.  Every year, both celebs and non-celebs flock to the almighty fro as a final touch for their Halloween costume.

Now she styled this right! We stan an afro barbie alright!

What’s the obsession of wearing an afro during Halloween?

Many black women who choose to wear an afro during Halloween are usually not typical wearers of kinky or afro hair and they aren’t usually seen sporting afro textured hair on a regular basis.  It’s possible that women who wear afros during Halloween may not be as comfortable wearing afro texture during daily life and see it as a chance to release their inner tigress.

Throughout history, afro and black hair have sometimes been considered taboo and other times—wild and animalistic! A black woman getting dressed up as an animalistic character during Halloween, will likely choose to sport an afro.

The decade of the 70s is also a popular time period that the black community has frequented for selection of Halloween costumes.  There were a number of outfits seen on celebs this year who were dressed as 70s figures.  Toya held a 70s Player's ball themed party and boy was she and her daughter serving up beautiful afro kinky looks!

Of course, the 70s is one of the most important decades of all time for the history of the afro.

During this period, women and men began to feel liberation from the holds of the civil rights era and reclaimed the beauty and power that was always theirs.

Once the natural hair movement picked up steam during the 2010s, the feeling was almost like the 70s all over again as women decided to put away their perms and straightening concoctions and learn to embrace and rediscover their natural hair and afro-centric beauty.

Not only is the afro a depiction of beauty and power; it also oozes sex appeal.

When in costume, women love to look sexy and so that’s also a reason why many choose to wear one during Halloween.  However so, afros should not solely be worn during Halloween.  We want to see our sistahs who love their fros during Halloween to also love them in their daily life.  Afros are a symbol of Afrocentric feminine beauty.

They are glorious and they are elegant.

Baby Hair Crazy?!

Wigs provide an abundance of options for individuals to sport a variety of styles that they may not originally be able to do with their own hair.  With all of the different types of wigs available within the hair industry, it can be hard to choose between wig types such as an HD lace front or a crochet style wig.  Then there is the pervasive question that some wig wearers may have: “Should I wear this wig with baby hair?” What’s with the baby hair craze that is currently going on? The baby hair trend was extremely popular in the early 90s and it made a comeback in the late 2010s. The name came from the look of an actual baby's hair or how a baby's hair looks as a new born. The thin hair that appear at the scalp line which are actually signals of the baby's hair that has yet to grow in. While the trend does appear to be simmering down these days, one question still remains: Does leaving baby hair out on your wig really make a difference?  Some feel...
