Serena Williams Appears Several Shades Lighter in a Post to Promote Stuart Weitzman

Serena Williams posted a photo as a brand ambassador for Stuart Weitzman, the designer shoe brand. There was an outward feature that was very noticeably different.  In the photo, Serena was seen sitting down in a black sweatshirt with a ‘5’ graphic with a pair of red Stuart Weitzman heels.

Social media unleashed on Serena and various accounts began posting shock memes.  Mediumsizemeech on Instagram stated:

@sips_with_ree said “The f#@ y’all do to Serena.  Change it back right g$#%$ now.”  Serena has always been a radiant dark brown tone so it’s understandable why many were expressing their concern and wondering whether Serena intentionally lightened her skin.

Sometimes sunlight can make a person appear lighter than they are depending on the angle that the photo is taken.  If Serena is lightening her skin, it’s not anyone’s business but people still want to know why.

She’s always been seen in her photos with darker toned skin so a photo where she appears much lighter would definitely not go unnoticed.

There are also photos which show her natural tone as a youngster.

After receiving criticism from individuals and fans, Serena deleted the photo a few hours later.  Maybe she felt a way after seeing internet memes like this one:

Do you believe that Serena is intentionally lightening her skin tone or do you think it was due to lighting in the photo? It's possible that  the natural lighting is to blame or maybe even her foundation, which could have been done by an artist who may not have had the right shade in tow.

Seeing Serena much lighter than her natural tone may be a little bothersome to some.  Serena is one of the greatest tennis players of all time and has pushed through racial boundaries of what in means to be a star player of a sport that mostly has non-black participants. People are hoping to be able to see more of the award winning female athlete that they grew to love.
